Guide To NBA Jerseys

Updated on March 18, 2016

NBA 2015-16 Season TNT Opening Intro

NBA Team Colors

Whatever NBA Team you love it always helps to show off your support by wearing your team’s colors. Now of course you probably would want to wear your favorite player’s jersey number or at the very least one of the well-known players (past or present).

Anyway, if you are a first time or a novice jersey buyer or in case you really haven’t really understood the subtle differences of the different kinds of jerseys available in the market, then you probably would want to read up before you make your final purchase.

First off not all jerseys are the same. And then they come in different brands, among them the Adidas, Reebok and Nike brands. Also you have a choice of all the regular team colors, even the classic ones. And you can also purchase the jerseys of past NBA greats.

Now if you are like me, you’d probably look at the prices first and then decide. You’d also probably think that the priciest ones are the best. And the cheapest one, the worst. But it’s not really as simple as that.

And of course your budget and where and how you are going to wear them and where would also come to play.

NBA 2014-2015

But now that the new NBA Season is open and with all the player movement, you probably would want to purchase new jerseys.

Don’t worry, you can actually purchase some right on this page [just click on the links]. Or at least you could probably finally decide which one to buy as you ponder on your next trade and waiver move in your hotly contested NBA Fantasy Game.

What Is The Difference Between The Authentic, Swingman And Replica Jerseys?

Now if you are a casual fan, you might be asking yourself for the longest time, why are there so many different kinds of jerseys or what are all these different types of NBA jerseys available.

And to simplify these are the Replica, the Swingman and the Authentic NBA Jerseys.

1. Authentic

Now if you are an all out, true blue NBA or basketball fan, then only the Official (hence Authentic) NBA Jerseys will do.

Now, even though you can actually purchase these real deal NBA Jerseys which are practically exactly the same ones your favorite players wear day in and day out, there are many drawbacks to purchasing one for yourself.

First, the price and for US$175 to $350 a piece, most fans would rather buy premier level tickets to watch the games instead. And of course even watching the games live on court may be too much for some fans and so let’s face it, Authentics aren’t practical for many NBA fans, especially the casual ones.

Second, because these are Authentic, the sizes would probably be almost always too big or much too large for the casual fan. Well of course if you are as tall or as heavily built as your favorite player then by all means buy the same size he wears.

Now an Authentic here are what you are buying:

  • Official ClimaCool polyester engineered mesh shirts
  • Embroidered Official NBA Logo
  • Official Team Logo
  • Twill wordmarks and player names and numbers

And the durability to withstand actual professional game play actions.

2. Swingman

Now for those who would rather save a little bit of cash to actually purchase their tickets, there is the middle of the pack, the Swingman Jersey.

I would dare say that among the three, this is probably the most popular, well probably not the highest selling, but yes popular.

Why? Because the fan (die hard or casual) do get the best of both worlds with a Swingman.

For you still have many of the same qualities of the Authentic but they are far less expensive than the real-deal Authentic. For most, the only noticeable difference between the Swingman and the Authentic would be the lettering. And of course if you look hard enough, the material wouldn’t look and feel the same.

Now for a Swingman here are what you are buying:

  • Flat back mesh and polyester flat knit rib shirts
  • Official NBA Logo
  • Official Team Logo
  • Printed Twill teams, player names and numbers

But for the price, US$50 to $120 each, everyone could almost afford one or two.

3. Replica

Now if you really just want to have one and maybe just occasionally wear it then you cannot go wrong with Replicas,me and my son have a few of them.

And like the Swingman and the Authentic, the Replica is also an Official NBA Jersey, although totally affordable. And you can probably score one for US$29 to $49 or even cheaper.

Top sellers or New arrivals are possible priced a little higher. But what the heck, you can probably purchase at least one replica every season. And with players constantly changing teams and teams constantly changing colors, this might not be a bad idea.

Now for a Replica here are what you are buying:

  • Reverse Flat back mesh and polyester flat knit rib shirts
  • Official NBA Logo
  • Official Team Logo
  • Screen Printed teams, player names and numbers

The material is noticeably softer and lighter if you are familiar with the Authentic feel.

But one advantage of this is that it is more comfortable to wear. And this would be just perfect for most kids, teens and women NBA fans.

Of course, Kids, Youth and Womens have their own styles, cuts, trims and sizes. And normally they should be a little bit cheaper than the Men’s Versions. And there are even toddler, infant and custom sizes.

Now The Choice Is Yours

If you wish you can have one custom-made, with your own name and number. How cool is that right?

But again as I have said, whatever you choose, it will not reduce the NBA fan in you. And if you are looking to have one that you would want to wear day in and day out, then get a Replica.

Now if you are intending to play games with them, then an Authentic will be your best bet as it should be able to take the rough plays and the spills. Or you can always get the ever popular Swingman.

Now as I have said for your kids and for female fans, you might want to purchase the kids, youth or womens replicas, especially for those who have delicate skin and those who would probably find the weight and the feel of the real thing annoying.

Now whatever you chose, just pick one and buy it today!
